1560 JOHANN WILD. Sermons on the Advent of Christ - Life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus.
Scarce early imprint of the works of popular Franciscan preacher at Mainz, Johann Wild (1495- 1554), issued shortly after his death.
Wild's works enjoyed immense popularity from the 1540's through the 1560's. As a preacher of a moderate middle way amidst the polemical invective of the Reformation, to many, his voice was a welcome, Christ-centric reprieve.
Not sufficiently committed to the infallibility of the Papacy, his works drew the attention of censors and in 1596 his works were condemned outright by the Vatican and placed on the Index of Prohibited / Banned Books.
