1568 JOHN WELCH. Sermons of Scottish Covenanter. Miracles and Prophecy. VG!
A lovely 1807 edition of the sermons of John Welch [1568-1622]. He was son-in-law to John Knox and considered one of the saintliest of the Scottish protestants. Accounts of miracles abound surrounding his life, including people seeing his face lighted with the glory of God while praying, prophetic utterances, etc.,
Welch, John. Forty-Eight Select Sermons Preached by that Eminent and Faithful Servant of Jesus Christ, Mr. John Welch. Chambersburg. George Kenton Harper. 1807. 544pp + subscriber's list.
This one is actually a really charming piece of Americana as well. Still housed in its original well-patinated early 19th century plain calf binding, bumped at corners, small loss at head, but quite attractive. Then, stitched in by hand throughout are early 19th century printed recipes for sponge cake, cream chocolate cake, feather cake, the use of poke berries for reumatism, old-fashioned ginger bread, marble cake, cream pudding, etc., I mean, a lot of cakes. Some loose. None obscuring text.
Title page absent. First leaf of the table of contents damaged. Remaining text good, though handled, with corners turned, etc., A very solid, usable volume and quite a nice, charming copy at a reasonable price.
