A rather nicely preserved 1589 "black letter" Genevan Bible. These were the ideal Puritan text, containing what came to be known as the Calvinist's Catechism, that is Certain Questions and Answers Touching the Doctrine of Predestination, etc.
The Bible. Translated according to the Ebrew and Greeke, and Conferred with the Best Translations in Diuers Languages. With Most Profitable Annotations vpon all the Hard Places, and Other Things of Great Importance, as may Appeare in the Epistle to the Reader. And Also a Most Profitable Concordance for the Readie Finding Out of Any Thing in the Same Conteined. 1589. London. Imprinted in London by the Deputies of Christopher Barker. [F.F. 153, 154, 155].
A good + copy, bound in leather, a bit tender after the first gathering, and before the last, but generally solid. A few divots to front board. Pages are generally bright, with some stains, light foxing, and some period juvenile sepia scribbles as shown.
Contains the general title, then to the text, apparently issued without the genealogical charts of Israel, then the Old Testament, Apocrypha, New Testament title, Predestination, and the text of the New Testament. Textually unusually complete.
