The present is a wonderfully preserved 1639 folio, measuring 9.75 x 15.5 inches, being the final of only five printings of the true 59-line, black letter 1611 King James / Authorized Version of the Bible. [Herbert #543; Darlow & Moule #421.

Very scarce on the market.

The New Testament Of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; Newly translated out of the originall Greek; And with the former translations diligently compared and revised. By his Majesties speciall commandment. Appointed to be read in churches. Imprinted at London by Robert Barker, Printer to the Kings most Excellent Majestie: And by the Assignes of John Bill. Anno Dom. 1639.

Bound probably in the late 20th century in a very high quality, sympathetic full calf binding with appropriate tooling to spine compartments, and appropriate use of archival materials.

Textually the volume is very crisp and pagination of New Testament title through Revelation is complete. Title is attractive with chipping at margins. The remainder of the text block is very closely cropped in the outside margin, affecting final letter or two of the header line and very occasionally the last letter of a line of actual text. Please see photographs for examples. Beginning at the end of II Corinthians, the upper corner is a bit dog-eared, which increases forward in the text block with non-textual losses into Revelation. Then, from Revelation 8 forward, losses at the corner have been repaired and impact some lines of text.

A very attractively preserved example with some faults, as usual. And affordably offered.
