A wonderful assemblage of three separately published works by prominent puritan and one of the divines of the Westminster Assembly, Edward Reynolds [1599-1676]. Siding with the Presbyterians in the Civil War of 1643, he also took the Covenant in 1644, preached for Cromwell, and was solidly in the puritan camp. However, he was also a peace maker; never looking to establish a Presbyterian State, as some were, he was open to reconciling with the broader church with more liberty of conscience. In 1660, he did just that and was therefore not ejected in 1662.

Reynolds remains one of the sturdiest of the puritan exegetes. Spurgeon said that his works were ". . . surpassingly clear and elaborate. He was a man of vast learning and a thoroughly evangelical spirit."

All rather nice and crisp; a bit handled at beginning of second work and final leaf a bit dusty; occasionally cropped a bit close. Neatly bound in a simple plan calf binding that is probably 20th century. Very slightest bow.
