Very desirable on the market, the collected works, including three separate volumes [having 3 and 3 and 2 works respectively] plus two additional separately issued sermons all in one period calf binding by the inimitable puritan, William Bridge [1600-1671]. His Lifting Up for the Downcast has save many, many a soul from spiritual depression. He is, to my mind, the single most pastorally, devotionally, and Christologically rich of the experimental puritans, only perhaps equalled by Thomas Brooks.

The finest assemblage of Bridge's works we have ever handled. The portly larger 8vo includes:

Bridge, William. The Works of William Bridge, Sometime Fellow of Emanuel College in Cambridge; now Preacher of the Word of God at Yarmouth. The First Volume. Viz. I. The Great Gospel-Mysterie of the Saints Comfort and Holinesse, Opened and Applyed from Christ's Priestly Office. II. Satan's Power to Tempt; and Christ's Love to and Care of His People under Temptation. III. Thankfulnesse Required in Every Condition. London. Printed for Peter Cole, and are Sold at his Shop at the Signe of the Printing-Presse in Cornhill neer the Royall Exchange. 1649. 325pp + Table.

Printed for Peter Cole, and are to be Sold at the Sign of the Printing-Presse in Cornhill neer the Royall Exchange. 1647. 33pp.

A very handsome example in original plain calf with raised bands over sewn cords. Small splits at head and tail of hinges, rubbed, and just through at extremities. Textually very good with some light staining on the last few leaves of the the third volume and the final sermon a bit handled. As somewhat usual, no paper over pasterdowns.
