An exceptional production taken from the first edition of Walton's classic on fishing as hobby and "mystical" pursuit held at the Bodlein Library, University of Oxford and copyrighted by the University itself. Produced in a limited edition of just 200 examples in fine green morocco leather with 4 raised bands, and housed in an original matching cloth sleeve.
The work itself takes the form of a dialogue between a fictional angler (Piscator) and his companions. It is both a practical manual on fishing techniques and a philosophical celebration of a simple life connected to nature. Think Walden and Henry David Thorough. It explores themes of nature, contemplation, and the virtues of fishing as a peaceful and "mystical" or "spiritual" respite from the world and is considered the first true fishing classic.
This example, unbelievably, remains as new and has never been opened. It was discovered in a warehouse of unopened stock from an antiquarian bookseller in Bedford, UK.
Walton, Izaak and Charles Cotton. The Compleat Angler or the Contemplative Man's Recreation. Nottingham Court Press. 1983.
