1691 JOHN HIERON. Rare Memoir of Presbyterians of Derbyshire - Puritanism.
1691 JOHN HIERON. Rare Memoir of Presbyterians of Derbyshire - Puritanism.
A very rare memoir of John Hieron and ten other Presbyterians from Derbyshire; this work heavily relied on by Ed. Calamy for his history of Non-Conformity and excessively rare in the original edition. I don't believe we have ever handled it before.
John Hieron, called "A prophet and the son of a prophet" by his puritan biographer, Robert Porter, was born 1608, studied for the ministry at Cambridge and settled to an effective ministry in Derbyshire. Ejected in 1662, he sympathized with the Presbyterians, though did not encourage reordination. The present work contains his life, an account of some extraordinary providences, a sense of his personal devotional life, and important first-hand account of the Great Ejection, and lives of 10 other non-conformist divines.
