A rather textually nicely preserved early imprint of Simon [Symon] Patrick's [1626-1707] classic on Genesis.

Patrick was Bishop of Ely and considered one of the great biblical scholars of the era, influenced by the Cambridge Platonists and generally considered an "Arminian Anglican." His works were reprinted and considered standards for rigorous scholarship up through the end of the 19th century.

Spurgeon held many works by Patrick in his own library and called him a man of great learning and indicated works by him should have a place "in all complete libraries."

Symon, Lord Bishop of ELY. A Commentary Upon The First Book of Moses, Called Genesis. London. Printed for Ri. Chigwell, at the Rose and Crown in St. Paul's Church-Yard. 1698. 650pp.

A good copy, bound in leather. Front and rear hinges have been naively reinforced with adhesive running the length of the spine. Lightly rubbed, with corners through, but generally solid. Pages are generally bright with some occasional light foxing. Textually quite nice.
