Very rare 1741 first Scottish edition of the sermons preached by Whitefield in Scotland during Cambuslang-Glasgow Revival.

Whitefield, George. Eight Sermons on the Following Subjects. The Lord Our Righteousness. The Prodigal Son. The Duty of Gospel Ministers. Saul’s Conversion. The Method of Grace. The Kingdom of God. Persecution Every Christian’s Lot. The Believer’s Golden Chain. To which is Prefixed Mr. Josiah Smith’s Sermon, on the Character, Preaching, &c. of the Reverend Mr. George Whitefield. Glasgow. Printed for Robert Smith at the Gilt-Bible. 1741.

Very scarce. Each sermon, save the prefixed biographical address, preached in Glasgow during the revival of 1741. Each separately paginated and presumably issued as both individual “tractates” and in the present assembled book form. The Josiah Smith address was originally delivered in South Carolina in 1740, here re-printed as recommendatory of the present volume and as a defense of the ministry of Whitefield.

Original calf, front board detached. Early [18th century] inscription on the pastedown and ink word on title. Very solid, text toned with somewhat narrow margins, probably as issued.

Not a single copy in the auction record; exceptionally scarce.
