An absolutely lovely 12mo 18th century imprint of a 17th century devotional classic. Though, for all its common use, this being the 19th edition, it is surprisingly scarce on the market.

Joseph Hall [1574-1656] was both respected academic, theologian, and controversialist and also a deeply meaningful and experimental author and preacher. It was this combination of intellectual rigor and experimental piety that kept his works in print for 400 years. His work on the Old Testament was in print again in the 1990's by Soli Deo Gloria.

Spurgeon said of his work on the Old Testament that if its price were raised in proportion to its real value, it would become one of the most costly books extant.

Hall, Joseph. Jacob's Ladder: Or, the Devout Soul's Ascension into Heaven: In Prayers, Thanksgivings, and Praises. In Four Parts, viz. 1. Private Devotions. 2. Family Devotions. 3. Occasional Devotions. 4. Sacred Poems upon Select Subjects. With Graces and Thanksgivings. London. Printed for T. Longman, in Paternoster-Row. 1764. Nineteenth Edition. 172pp.

Very attractive original calf binding, fits nicely in the hand, minor losses to contrasting title label, a bit rubbed and bumped at corners. Textually, quite good with some light handling, a few turned corners, etc.
