A rather rare ordination sermon preached just in advance of American and British hostilities, during which he served as a faithful Pastor to the American Revolutionary people. Weld was later pastor at Braintree and, as a side note, experienced some success as an inventory, holding the patent for an early washing machine [1799], etc.
Jonathan French was a prominent Revolutionary War Chaplain, Surgeon, and Pastor.
An exemplary early American sermon demonstrating the primary role of the pulpit as the mouthpiece of God. French takes for his text, and explicates from it the primary pastoral charge of faithful preaching,
"And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them." Ezekiel 3.4
