1772 JOHN M'LAURIN. Sermons from the George Whitefield Revivals in Scotland. RARE!
Very nicely preserved volume of the sermons of John M'Laurin [McLaurin], minister at Glasgow, one of the chief supporters of Whitefield at the Glasgow and Cambuslang Revivals, co-preacher with him, and he led the receiving of the sacrament at the field services. The volume also edited by John Gillies, author of the most influential historical book on revivals to be written before the late 20th century, Historical Collections of Accounts of Revivals. It's a massive tome recounting the entire history of revivals in the western church.
M'Laurin, John. Sermons and Essays by the Late Reverend John M'Laurin, one of the Ministers of Glasgow. Published from the Author's Manuscripts, by John Gillies, one of the Ministers of Glasgow. Second Edition. Edinburgh. W. Gray and J. Wood. 1772. 447pp.
Original full calf with some abbraded losses as shown, but still very attractive and sound, an inscription on the blank ffep from 1808, and some reinforcing at title. Textually very clean and sound with just a couple minor early textual notes in margin, probably those of William Corrie or W. Wilson, the inscriber and recipient indicated on the title page.
Includes a biography of M'Laurin, his part in calling for prayers for revival in Scotland, a brief account of his visit with William and Gilbert Tennent and Samuel Davies, etc., plus sermons largely very focused on the glory of Christ, a lengthy work on Christian Piety, plus sections on the Supernatural Operations of the Holy Spirit, etc.
