An important post-Great Awakening articulation of the role of the Covenant in "Edwardsian" Congregational theology. Strong takes an important middle path. He opposed the softening of covenantal conversion by way of the half-way covenant, which allowed "unconverted" folks into full membership in the local assembly. At the same time, he opposed efforts at creating a second tier to the covenanted community by way of "owning the Covenant."

Strong, Cyprian. A Discourse on Acts II. 42. In which the Practice of Owning the Covenant, is Particularly Examined. First. Whether it be Agreeable to the Practice of the Apostles. Secondly. Whether It be Scriptural and Ought to be Tolerated. Also, the Various Things which have been Urged in Favour of the Practice, are Particularly Considered, and the Reasons for Its Exclusion Exhibited. By Cyprian Strong, M. A. Pastor of the First Church in Chatham. Hartford. Printed by Hudson and Goodwin. 1780. 46pp.

A very good copy, bound in wraps, generally solid, with generally bright pages and some toning.
