Anything related to the Countess, who was nearly the sole financier of the Great Awakening, is scarce. She supported Whitefield and the Wesleys without reserve. She founded her own training college for the new evangelists coming to Christ through their ministries. She then built them chapels all across the United Kingdom, nearly exhausting her vast estate.

The present is a really moving three page autograph letter signed “In the service of the Gospel, S.Huntingdon." Addressed to to “My Worthy Friends of the Committee”, whom she was supposed to meet in Bath, but was prevented by her illness. In her own words, she was "hardly able to hold her pen, so weak was she.

In lieu of her own presence, she sends the present letter to the meeting, discussing correspondence, various ministers and evangelists she was supporting, and her own spiritual and physical health.

3 pages, 8 x 10 inches, complete with just a few minor blemishes. Addressed to: Mr Carpenter at the Countess of Huntingdons, Bath. Dated 20 September 1784.
