1786 METHODIST. Rare Life and Death of Irish Methodist, Christopher Peacock.
1786 METHODIST. Rare Life and Death of Irish Methodist, Christopher Peacock.
Rogers, James. A Short Account of the Life and Death of Mr. Christopher Peacock; Addressed to the Methodist Society, in Dublin. Dublin: Printed by B. Dugdale, No. 150, Capel-Street. 1786. 24pp.
Very rare. Peacock died the same year as John Fletcher; these two were the only two mentioned publicly at the Annual Conference by Wesley. A mere 33 years old, Peacock had traveled to preach in County Cork, Ireland, at the request of Thomas Coke. Already he had been successful on the Scarborough Circuit. Very rare even in institutional holdings; an important memoir of early Irish Methodism.
Includes letters by Christopher Peacock and also an Elegy Written upon the Death of Mr. Christopher Peacock.
Textually complete, this unusual early Methodist work has been removed from a larger sammelband; remainder of binding and some tears and abrasions at spine; corners rounded, some handling as shown. Textually complete and very usable. Weakened and could stand being stitched.
