Flavel, John [1630-1691]. The Whole Works of the Reverend r. John Flavel: Late Minister at Dartmouth in Devon, in Two Volumes. London. Printed by R. J. for Tho. Parkhurst; Hugh Newman; Andrew Bell; and Tho. Cockerill, 1791. 798pp + Index.
An impressive large Puritan folio, measuring 14 inches in height, containing volume one only; and defective at the prelims, not affecting any of Flavel's works proper. The volume contains, uninterrupted, 1. The Fountain of Life Opened; Or, A Display of Christ in His Essential and Mediatorial Glory. 2. The Method of Grace in Bringing Home the Eternal Redemption. 3. A Treatise on the Soul of Man. 4. A Treatise on Fear. 5. A Treatise on Evil Days. And, 6. A Discourse on Mental Errors.
Original full calf, heavily rubbed, nicely patinated; surface breach at front hinge and shaken, though still quite firmly attached. Rubbed through at corners and at various points. Ffep, title, and first few leaves of the "Life" absent. Text to all of Flavel's works present and generally clean and solid. I was tempted to wax it, but I quite like the feel of it as is for a genuine old library feel.
