1792 SLAVERY & METHODISTS. An Address Urging Methodists to Join Abolitionists against the Slave Trade.
Very rare early Methodist abolitionist document. Samuel Bradburn [1751-1816] was a friendly associate and preacher under John Wesley, and a dear friend and disciple of the saintly John Fletcher of Madeley. He began preaching as a Methodist itinerant in 1774 and was considered one of the most influential Methodist orators of the period. He was perhaps the first to issue a formal charge to all Methodists to join the side of the abolitionists, and to do so with full cooperation. By 1799, he had been elected President of the Conference.
An important work, and offered just three times at auction since 1927.
