A very desirable post-millennial text, including Edwards' important contribution, that of his theological disciple, Joseph Bellamy, and a final contribution by David Austin. Austin's work, though the least known, significant in that he attempts to explicitly tie the events of the late 1t8th century in America to the book Revelation 18.

This copy retains the rare frontis of Jonathan Edwards, engraved by Amos Doolittle. No copies on the market at the time of cataloging. The book offered at auction just twice since 1957.

Contents include:

Part I. A Discourse by the Reverend Dr. [Joseph] Bellamy, founded on Revelation xx. 1, 2, 3. Part II. A Treatise by the Late Learned and Highly Esteemed President [Jonathan] Edwards, Entitled, An Humble Attempt to Promote Explicit Agreement and Visible Union of God's People in Extraordinary Prayer for the Revival of Religion, and the Advancement of Christ's Kingdom on Earth, Pursuant to Scripture Promises and Prophecies Concerning the Last Time, founded on Zechariah viii. 20, 21, 22. Part III. A Discourse by the Reverend Mr. [David] Austin, Entitled The Downfall of Mystical Babylon; or, a Key to the Providence of God in the Political Operations of 1791-1794 - Founded on Revelation xviii.20

Edward, Jonathan; Joseph Bellamy; and David Austin. The Millennium; Or, the Thousand Years of Prosperity, Promised to the Church of God, in the Old Testament and in the New, Shortly to Commence, and to be Carried on to Perfection, under the Auspices of Him, who, in the Vision, was Presented to St. John. Elizabeth Town. Printed by Shepard Kollock. 1794. 426pp.

Very attractive original full calf with simple title label. The frontis of Edwards, often lacking, present. Some rubbing, neatly consolidated and waxed. Text a bit rippled as usual with light toning and handling. Good + to very good.
