Excessively scarce piece of devotion for women, published in Boston, 1796. It's last appearance at auction was 1927, even then described as "an extremely rare piece of early American poetry with no record of any sale of a copy of the work."

The prose section of the work is apparently that of the English puritan, Thomas Gataker [1574-1624], and the various poems on the various forms of female godliness, i.e. virginity, marriage, and widowhood, appear American and original to the production.

[Thomas Gataker; Anonymous]. A Good Wife, God's Gift; or a Character of a Wife Indeed! Also, A Poetical Description of the Chaste Virgin; of a Good Wife; and a Pious Widow, &c. Boston. Printed by J. White. 1796. 47pp.

A good - to fair copy, bound in wraps, essentially disbound, with handled pages, toned throughout, some worming, and chips that do not impact the text.
