1797 ISAAC AMBROSE. Superb Puritan Work on the "Ministry of Angels." Scarce.
1797 ISAAC AMBROSE. Superb Puritan Work on the "Ministry of Angels." Scarce.
A very scarce 18th century imprint of one of the few Puritan works on the subject of angels. They often shied away from them given the Catholic over-emphasis on these heavenly ministers.
Isaac Ambrose [1600-1664] was a prominent Puritan divine of a decidedly spiritual, some would say "mystical," tone. He was twice imprisoned for non-conformity and ejected for non-conformity in 1662.
His "Looking Unto Jesus" is a spiritual classic. Old Leonard Ravenhill said if you were to read one book outside of Scripture, that should be it. I believe he said the same about Gurnall . . . so I guess two books then.
Ambrose, Isaac. Ministration and Communion with Angels. Berwick. W. Prorson. 1797. 138pp + Catalogue.
A fine copy in micro-tree calf with subtle tooling to spine and contrasting black morocco label. Some light rubbing, but very nicely preserved. Textually fine aside from a few pencil marks. Very solid.
