We're a big fan of the ordination sermon. They provide a uniquely concentrated and intentional statement of the core values and perspectives of the Church in a given time and place. This is even further concentrated in the "charge" at the end, where the most important functions of the Gospel Ministry are laid on the Pastor as primary sacred duties. Both personally and historically interesting reading.

Excellent ordination sermon for Dan Huntington [1774-1864], his first charge after graduating from Yale under Timothy Dwight.

Text: I Corinthians 1.21. For after that, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Dana, James. Christianity the Wisdom of God. A Sermon Preached October 17, 1798, at the Ordination of the Rev. Dan Huntington, to the Pastoral Care of the First Church and Society in Litchfield, Connecticut. Litchfield. Thomas Collier. 1799. 30pp.

Very good. Textually very crisp and clean save some minor scattered foxing. At some point, part of a larger sammelband with associated flotsam to spine and tenderness. Half title not preserved.
