Very rare volume in any state, it is a first-hand account of Rowland Hill's evangelistic and preaching tour of Northern England and Scotland at the invitation of revivalist, Robert Haldane, to whom he dedicates the volume. James Haldane traveled with Hill. gives record of his travels to various denominations, discussing theological disagreements, etc., but more to his emphasis is his search for what the Spirit is doing in the church. There are multiple accounts of revival and gracious outpourings recorded.

Hill, Pastor of Surrey Chapel, was perhaps the father of the modern "non-denominational" movement. He was a Jesus, Scripture, Liberty of Conscience man through and through. He was one of the founders of the London Missionary Society, the British and Foreign Bible Society, and a handful of other influential cooperative works among denominational Christians.

The present copy, with no personal note of ownership, was custom bound with a generous infusion of non-organic engravings of various British and Scottish preachers mentioned, of locations in Scotland, of James I and George III, etc., where they are referenced in the text. This would have been a feat involving serious commitment.

Presently in a quarter leather binding, probably 20th century, but the assemblage of engravings is clearly from an early or original owner.
