The present is a very rare first edition, first printing of the first Greek New Testament printed in America. The first printing is distinguished by the misprint of ςοφά at Jude 25, which was corrected in the second otherwise identical imprint.

Also contains the rather rarely preserved Isaiah Thomas woodcut as the final leaf.

Η ΚΑΙΝΗ | ΔΙΑΘΗΚΗ. Novum | Testamentum. Juxta Exemplar Joannis Millii Accuratissime Impressum. Editio Prima Americana. . Wigorniæ Massachusettensi: Excudebat Isaias Thomas, Jun. Singulatim et Numerose eo Vendita. Officinae suæ. April - 1800. 478 + 2p .publisher's catalogue and printer's advertisement woodcut.

Very attractive late 20th century stylistically appropriate quarter speckled calf in near fine condition, new endpapers, fly leaf with inscription from the influential Hasbrouck family of Ogdensburg, New York with small 3/8 x 3/4 inch piece missing from corner, not impacting text. Fly leaf, title, and chronology leaf rounded at top right corner. Textually very solid, crisp, and clean with occasional light handling and foxing; one smudged thumbprint not obscuring text. A very good textual example of the true first printing.

A far inferior copy of the 2nd printing, and lacking the woodcut printer's sheet, was offered at Swann Auction Galleries in New York at $500 - $700+ with commissions.
