Significant pair of items representing the sermon and abstract published at the first annual meeting of the Massachusetts Missionary Society [1800] and the second [1801]. The MMS was only the second missionary society [formed 1799] in the United States, after the New York Missionary Society, and preceding the Connecticut Missionary Society and the Massachusetts Baptist Missionary Society. The first three would be absorbed into the ABCFM which emerged in 1810.
