1804 ROBERT HAWKER. The Works of Robert Hawker. Six Volumes. Full Leather. Spurgeon Recommends.
Very rare in any condition, this is a really nicely preserved 8vo set of the works of Robert Hawker in full leather.
Charles Spurgeon exhorted his students, “Gentlemen, if you want something full of marrow and fatness, cheering to your own hearts by way of comment, and likely to help you in giving to your hearers rich expositions, buy Dr. Hawker’s Poor Man’s Commentary . . . he sees Jesus, and that is a sacred gift which is most precious.”
His other works, here are no less so. In six volumes, we have his works on The Divinity of Christ, Zion's Pilgrim, Zion's Warrior, Paraclesis, The Christian's Pocket Companion, Five Minutes Advice to Prayerless Persons, Sermons on Important Subjects, Union with Christ, A Prop Against All Despair, Compassion to the Sorrows of the Heart, Sermons on the Deity and Operations of the Holy Ghost, etc.
Hawker, Robert. The Works of Robert Hawker, D. D. Vicar of the Parish of Charles, Plymouth, and Formerly of Magdalen Hall, Oxford. In Six Volumes. London. C. Whittingham. 1804.
Very handsome full calf with gold decoration on spine, two contrasting black morocco labels, and quite nicely patinated. Aside from some minor rubbing, quite good. Front hinge of volume one is through, but intact and reinforced at some point.
Very desirable.
