1809 MASSACHUSETTS BIBLE SOCIETY. Original Constitution and Address at the Original Formation.
1809 MASSACHUSETTS BIBLE SOCIETY. Original Constitution and Address at the Original Formation.
Important manuscript related to the distribution of Scripture in the United States.
As with the missionary societies and publishing, Massachusetts was the sort of center of the Christian world in America for quite some time. And it was not different with the Massachusetts Bible Society. Founded in 1809, the present is the address circulated from their first meeting and includes the first printing of their constitution as well. It establishes their reason for being and why, in addition to the Philadelphia Bible Society, their ministry was required.
Members include Joseph Lathrop, Ebenezer Porter, Thomas Baldwin, Joseph Sewall, etc. across the theological palette.
No copies on the market at any price and never reissued in any format we can locate.
Very good in neat, probably c.1900 side stitched wraps.
