A rather rare volume of deeply experimental expositions on the Epistle to the Ephesians by Joseph Lathrop [1731-1820]. He was graduate of Yale, had W. B. Sprague, who wrote the famous, "Lectures on Revivals," for his associate pastor, and was influential during the Second Great Awakening. He pastored his church with great faithfulness and effectiveness in West Springfield for over 60 years.
Lathrop, Joseph. A View of the Doctrines and Duties of the Christian Religion in Forty-Nine Discourses on St. Pau's Epistle to the Ephesians. With a Preliminary Discourse on the Evidences of the Gospel. Especially those Derived from Conversion, Ministry, and Writings of that Apostle. Worcester. Isaiah Thomas, Jun. Isaac Sturtevant, Printer. 1810. 588pp.
Full calf, ex library label on spine, but period and the whole quite attractive. One label on front pastedown, not obnoxious. Tear on blank ffep. Otherwise, very solid, crisp and clean. Nice copy of a rare 18th century series of pastoral sermons on Ephesians.
