Inscribed by Rev. Joseph Farrar [1744-1816], who graduated Harvard in 1767 and was dismissed from church after church throughout New Hamphire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Upon his death, he described thusly: "Rev. Joseph Farrar was a man of great eccentricity, amounting occasionally to absolute derangement of mind."

It is then presented by Farrar's widow to Lemuel C. Pain in 1822.
