A charming little chapbook imprint of Luigi Cornaro's hints for long life. Originally written in Italy in the 16th century, Cornaro is said to have suffered from lethargy and depression and obesity in his early age. However, by certain rules he thineed down, became lively, spry, and healthy . . . and lived to be more than 100 years old, still surrounded by the young, energetic, and engaging.

It is unsurprising that the work was printed for an American audience at the period. Water treatments, hot springs, and the emergence of all kinds and varieties of health and wellness practitioners and practices were just beginning to be the rage.

Cornaro, Lewis. Discourses on a Sober and Temperate Life. By Lewis Cornaro, a Noble Venetian. Wherein is Demonstrated, by his Own Example, the Method of Preserving Health to Extreme Old Age. Translated from the Italian Original. A New Edition, Corrected. To Which is Added, Physic of the Golden Age, a Fragment. Boston. Printed by Thomas B Wait, and Sons. 1814. 90pp.

A fair copy only, bound in wraps that are chipped as shown, handled pages that are stained and toned throughout.
