A very smartly preserved and rebound set of the complete five volume set of Timothy Dwight's [1752-1817] evangelical-calvinistic theology. He was President of Yale during the Second Great Awakening and was a key figure in paving a pathway forward that was contra-Finney, but which was also workable with the more popular, evangelical Calvinism of influential Yale pastor and theologian, Nathaniel W. Taylor. It was his commitment to experimental Christianity that made Yale such a singularly potent location during the Second Great Awakening, helping spark a revival at Yale [1802] that would spread to Williams College via the Haystack Revival [1806] and establish the Missionary Revival of the 19th century in America more broadly.

Dwight, Timothy. Theology Explained and Defended, in a Series of Sermons by Timothy Dwight, Late President of Yale College. With a Memoir of the Life of the Author. In Five Volumes. Printed Middletown, Connecticut for William Baynes of London. 1819. 571pp + 660pp + 575pp + 590pp + 631pp.

Very good in wove cloth, clean and bright generally with some toning to prelims and rears and minor foxing. All edges retain original marbling. Very handsome.
