1820 PURITANS. Twenty Fine Engravings of Puritan Divines. John Owen, Thomas Case, etc.
A very fine group of twenty first quality engravings on full sheets. These would be great framed in an office. Certainly worth more individually, but we thought we'd keep them together.
Published by Charles & Henry Baldwyn. Newgate Street. c.1820. c.7 x 10 inches each.
Very good state with neat plate impressions, good margins, etc., One or two have some handling in margins. Very fine on the whole though.
Includes Alexander Henderson [b.1583; founder of the Reformed Church in Scotland]; Alexander Ross [b.1590; Scottish divine]; John Owen [b.1616; Puritan divine]; Adoniram Byfield [d.1660; one of the Scribes of the Westminster Assembly]; Thomas Goodwin [b.1600; Puritan divine]; Jacob Behmen [b.1575; German Christian Mystic]; Thomas Case [b.1598; Puritan divine]; Christopher Love [b.1618; Welsh Presbyterian Martyred in 1651], Matthew Hopkines [b.1619; The Witch Finder; responsible for perhaps 60% of the Witch Trials in England], etc. plus some other interesting ones including famous criminals, philosophers, etc.
