A very early edition of what was "the" hymnal of choice during the Second Great Awakening. It was produced in conjunction with the publishers of the Connecticut Evangelical Magazine, a primary distributor of first-hand revival accounts.
The last time an earlier edition was offered at auction was by Bangs in 1899, and that was an 1826, just one year earlier.

Good, solid example in rubbed, but attractively patinated period leather and marbled endpapers. Text is moderately foxed throughout. Just a hint of tenderness here and there. On the whole, quite a good period example.
