1827 EDWARD IRVING. Very Rare Manuscript Subscription for the Book that Started Premillennialism!
What a great little item! The present is a subscription slip with handwritten inscription and signature of Edward Irving relating subscriptions to the publisher for his translation of The Coming of the Messiah in Majesty and Glory by Manuel Lacunza. This work, translated by Irving from the Portuguese, is usually considered the originating moment of Premillennialism and, later, Dispensationalism. Between its influence on the Albury Group and Morning Watch, and the translation's impact on John Nelson Darby's thoughts, there is little doubt that assessment is to a large extent accurate.
Irving of course also today remembered as the seminal proto-pentecostal with the outbreak of prophecy, tongues, healings, etc., at his London church as early as 1828.
3.75 x 7 inch sheet in a very good state.
