A very nicely preserved set of Whiston's classic edition of the works of Flavius Josephus in early American sheepskin bindings; one of the nicer sets we've ever handled, and nice to see in its proper, bespoke binding.
Josephus, Flavius & William Whiston. The Works of Flavius Josephus, The Learned and Authentic Jewish Historian, and Celebrated Warrior, Containing Twenty Books of the Jewish Antiquities, Seven Books of the Jewish War, and the Life of Josephus, Written by Himself. Translated from the Original Greek, According to Havercamp's Accurate Edition. Together with Explanatory Notes and Observations. Embellished with Elegant Engravings. By the Late William Whiston, A. M. Professor of Mathematics in the University of Cambridge. From the Last London Edition of 1827. Complete in Two Volumes. Vol. I & II. Philadelphia. Grigg & Elliot. 1844. 582pp. + 595pp.
A very good set in full sheepskin with some rather minor rubbing; raised bands, very solid, with generally bright pages and light foxing. Would benefit from some bees' wax and a light buff.
