A wonderful 1.5pp ALS in the hand of William Orme [1787-1830]. A Scottish Congregationalist, he was a part of the revivals with James Alexander and Robert Haldane, but parted ways when they adopted Baptist views. In fact, he was trained by Robert at the Seminary at Cowie. While studying, he also conducted a very successful, if brief, revivalist mission at Fife. It lasted one year. He was then pastor at Perth. By 1824 he was serving in Surrey and was foreign secretary of the London Missionary Society. His burial at Bunhill Fields, alongside John Owen and other puritan and dissenting luminaries, is telling.

He wrote important biographies of John Owen, William Kiffin, and a Memoir of Richard Baxter which was appended to the 19th century edition of Baxter’s Practical Works.

It appears as though the present is a request to have a bit of French translated for Baxter’s biography, which was ready to press at the moment.

A bit close at inner margin, but a nice and unusual autograph letter.
