1830 CHARLES G. FINNEY. Rare Addressed Enveloped - Docketed in the Hand of Charles G. Finney!
A superb 1830 original envelope addressed to Charles G. Finney posted during the height of the revivals.
There is then a marginal docketing on the front panel in Finney’s hand, though not signed. It is docketed as having been received from Rev. Alvan Ingersoll [in Finney's hande]. Ingersoll was a disciple of Finney and one of the many revivalists to go out from Finney's ministry. Their relationship was close enough that Alvan named his first child, Charles Finney Ingersoll. Ingersoll had items published in the Oberlin Evangelist, and was a successful missionary with the American Home Missionary Society.
Released from the archive of the Finney Papers. Physical artifacts related to Finney are exceptionally rare. Because of his close association with Oberlin University, they did a nearly spotless job of harvesting just about everything of interest and have it now in their archives.
