An excellent work addressing the concerns of the "old school" Presbyterians and Congregationalists in response to the far-reaching influence among the young ministers of Nathaniel W. Taylor, successor to Moses Stuart at New Haven.

When he succeeded Moses Stuart at New Haven as pastor, an immediate revival ensued; 72 people being converted in one early Sabbath alone. And this continued week after week. But controversy followed. He advocated for immediate response, altar calls, etc., which to many old schoolers felt a bit too much like the abuses they ahd already leveled charges for against radicals like Charles G. Finney and Jedediah Burchard. But with the young leaders, the revivalists, the graduates of the newly formed Yale Divinity School [which he founded] he was astonishingly popular and influential.
