Superb 58pp founding documents of the Wyckoff True Dutch Reformed Church, founded by one of the pioneers of the True Dutch Reformed Church, Rev. Henry V. Wyckoff. He had split from the Reformed Church [1822], along with Solomon Froeligh, Abram Brokaw, Sylvanus Palmer, and John C. Tol. These were all suspended from the Reformed church for opposing the "Hopkinsian" innovations and together formed the The True Dutch Reformed Church.
In the years that followed, other Dutch Reformed ministers joined them, preferring a stricter Calvinism and more rigid church discipline. There is a good, concise history HERE.
The present church was founded in 1830, with the manuscripts ranging from 1830 to 1899, and including the original folding subscription document for the church, agreeing to pay for the construction of a house for Public Worship in the community. Signed, along with the amounts, by 132 individuals; an exceptionally large subscription for a smaller community.
It is signed at various points by influential persons in the True Dutch Reformed Church, including repeated signatures of Wyckoff, Van Doren, etc.
It also includes meeting notes of their first organizational meeting where they commission a seal, meet in the Tower of Glen and Mathias Mount and Jacob C. Van Doren act as Presiding Elders.
Further includes annual notices of Presiding Elder selection, a detailed record of the Seat Rents and the amounts paid.
Also annual general expenses paid for the original building [1831], including the wood, pulpit commission, stone foundation, digging, for the Bible and Psalm books for the pulpit, etc.
Henry Wyckoff passed away and the church at Glen and the Reformed Church at Charleston joined to hire a single pastor that would share responsibilities, i.e. Rev. Christian L. Paulison [1840]. There is then a further subscription list for pastoral compensation, and an addended subscription for a parsonage.
Annual reports include new members received, baptisms, communion seasons,
A good + copy, bound in quarter leather, shaken, with handled pages.
