Attractive volume of six complete works by Bickersteth in one volume. Bickersteth was one of the most influential Evangelical churchmen of the early 19th century. He was secretary of the Church Missionary Society, active in the Society for the Conversion of the Jews, a much-loved author and hymnnist, and one of the founders of the Parker Society to reprint the works of the great reformers in full.
Bickersteth, Edward (1786-1850) The Works of Rev. Edward Bickersteth; Containing Scripture Help, A Treatise in Prayer, The Christian Hearer, The Chief Concerns of Man for Time and Eternity, A Treatise on the Lord's Supper, and The Christian Student. Complete in One Volume. New York: Daniel Appleton, 1832. 655 pp.
Full contemporary calf; spine has four raised bands, leather title label in second compartment has been abraded; generally rubbing with one small nick to crown; owners' names to endpaper verso and subsequent flyleaf's recto; pages are foxed and age-toned. Bickersteth was an English evangelical clergyman who preached for the Church Missionary Society and the Society for the Conversion of the Jews. Title folded, minor stains, very slight weakness to front hinge. A nice volume.
