1836 EBENEZER ERSKINE [1680-1754]. The Whole Works of Scottish Presbyterian, Ebenezer Erskine

Very attractive, crisp set of the exceedingly Christ-rich works of Scottish Presbyterian, Ebenezer Erskine [1680-1754]. Deeply experimental, he and his brother Ralph invited George Whitefield to come to Scotland. The result of this visit was the Kilsyth and Cambuslang revival.

Very handsome full leather, probably issued separately in the same year as there are very, very slight differences in the leather on the bindings. 

Volumes two and three contain the ownership signature of Presbyterian minister and politician, Samuel Taggart [1754-1825]. He graduated Dartmouth in 1774, was ordained as a Missionary to preach to communities in New York whose pastors had gone as Chaplains during the Revolutionary War. He served as a Representative from Massachusetts from 1803-1817. 

Contents include: sermons on backsliding, imputed righteousness, the throne of grace, the tree of life, the day-spring from on high, Christ's government, the tabernacle of David, the sovereignty of God, the lamp of God's anointed, human nature preferred to the angels, the wise virgins going forth to meet the bridegroom, the character of the faithful minister, the kingdom of God in the souls of men, the plant of renown, Christ set up from everlasting, etc. etc. etc. 

Some light wear at extremities, but on the whole very good. Probably the nicest set of this work we have ever handled. Minor foxing. Small tear on ffep.
