A rather attractive copy of a contemplative classic of the Great Awakening. James Hervey [1714-1758] was friends, then later controversialists with, John and Charles Wesley and George Whitefield. He was at first an Arminian, then a Calvinist, and then most consider an Antinomian. He dedicated works to Selina, Countess of Huntingdon and was much loved personally, but his theology caused a rift between him and his fellow Methodists and Calvinistic Methodists.
