A really wonderful antique ebony and mother of pearl wax seal of George Whitefield produced for the 1839 Methodist Centenary. It was produced in both John Wesley and George Whitefield variants, with the Whitefield being by far the more rare.
A charming full bust in what seems to be ebony, or something imitating it, with inlaid clerical tie in mother of pearl. It measures 3.25 inches in height and retains original diced brass wax seal at base.
Moderate handling and wear as usual, slight loss to the nose, but the form still very clear and attractive. Base reads, “Rev. G. Whitefield.” And the rear "Centenary" and "1839."
We have handled perhaps two or three of these in the last 25 years.
