1840 M'CHEYNE / WILLIAM C. BURNS. Exceptionally Rare on the Dundee Revival of 1839!
Here is a gem; wonderful sammelband of works by Scottish divine, John Brown of Edinburgh. Most importantly among them, though all rare, is:
Brown, John [Of Edinburgh]. On the Means and Manifestations of a Genuine Revival of Religion. 1840. 48pp.
This work was published immediately on the heels of the trial of Robert Murray M'Cheyne and William Chalmers Burns with regard to the "emotionalism" involved in the revival at Dundee. Brown seeks to normalize through an exegesis of the Day of Pentecost and appeal to respected American revivalists [W. B. Sprague, etc.,] these effects.
[bound with] On Religion and the Means of Its Attainment. Edin-1845. 46pp.
[bound with] Sermons, 45pp.
[bound with] Two Addresses Before the Lords Supper 32pp.
[bound with] Nicol, J. The Life of Paul the Apostle in Metre. Brechin-83pp.
[bound with] Brown, J. Human Authority in Religion Condemned by Jesus Christ, an Expository Discourse. Edin.-1843. 36pp.
Nice little half calf volume, six works in all. Minor ex library, minor rubbing.
