1842 BENNET ROBERTS. Baptists and Universalism in the West. Rare Zanesville, Ohio Imprint.
A very scarce Zanesville, Ohio imprint of a work by Windsor [Morgan County], Baptist pastor, Bennet Roberts. He was also founder of the first anti-slavery society in the area in 1836.
No copy was extant before the one offered as part of the collection of Robert G. Hayman in 1979. Zanesville historian, Norris Schneider, was not aware of the imprint's existence and had never seen an example.
An important primary resource on the religious conflicts happening between denominations as they each attempted to establish footholds during the Westward Expansion.
Roberts, Bennet. A Glance at Universalism in the West by Bennet Roberts, Minister of the Gospel, Windsor, Morgan County Ohio. Zanesville: Printed by Thomas & Beatty. 1842.
A fair copy only, bound in heavily rubbed leather, with front board detached. Text is generally solid, with handled pages, small tide marks in the margins, and is toned throughout.
