1842 JOSIAH LITCH. Prophetic Exposition Volume II. Rare Early Millerite - Methodist Volume.
Exceptionally rare Millerite / Adventist work by one of its pioneers, Josiah Litch [1809-1866], published just before the predicted 1843 return of Christ. Litch was persuaded by the writings of William Miller after reading them in 1838. So effective was Litch at persuading people of the Millerite cause, especially the impending 1843 advent of Christ, he was called to be the first paid, full-time Millerite traveling preacher.
Many of his ideas were used to help the Millerites and Seventh Day Adventists navigate the Great Disappointment, including the "Investigative Judgment" doctrine, etc,. He was among the last hold-outs to continue promoting the 1844 date proposed by Snow. Afterward, he gradually abandoned his views and was a futurist by the time the Niagara Conferences took place in the 1870's.
