A rather scarce work addressed critically to the local Boston clergy upon their invitation and embrace of Baptist revivalist Jacob Knapp [1799-1874]. Knapp had by this time accepted and there had erupted something of a revival [or, excitement, as Skinner calls it] all across Boston.
It was not inaccurate to think of Knapp as the Baptist's own Charles G. Finney or Jedidiah Burchard [both of whom are mentioned in the present letters]. So it is unsurprising to hear similar accusations of enthusiasm, emotionalism, will worship, and "modern methods" leveled. What is unusual, is the public and direct way in which Skinner chose to address his fellow ministers.

A very attractive period example in increasingly rare original bindings; print on paper over boards with a cloth spine. Spine shows some chipping at base, but on the whole quite good. Text generally solid and ranging from clean to moderately foxed.
