Very rare little slightly later imprint of Nevin's historically important critique of the Second Great Awakening's "New Methods," focusing on emotional response, altar calls, the anxious bench, etc., which had begun to seed in the ministry of George Whitefield, but found full bloom in the revivalist meetings of Charles G. Finney, Jedidiah Burchard, and others. Finney is specifically the target of the present work.
Nevin, John W. The Anxious Bench by John W. Nevin (Reading PA: Daniel Miller, 1892). 133pp.
In original wraps, saddle-stitched. Some minor wear; cheaply produced and thus its rarity. No other copies of the 1844 or this 1892 on the market that we can detect.
