A very fine signed Scriptural sentiment by Reverend Dr. Thomas Brown (1811–1893), influential Scottish minister, Church historian, and influential figure in nineteenth-century Free Church history.

Originally ordained in the Church of Scotland at Kinneff in 1837, Brown joined the evangelical walkout during the historic Disruption of 1843, leaving his established parish to help form the Free Church of Scotland, where he subsequently served for decades as minister of the Dean Free Church in Edinburgh. He is best remembered today as the author of Annals of the Disruption (1884), the definitive historical chronicle and collection of primary accounts detailing the founding and early struggles of the Free Church.
