A rather scarce volume with no copies on the market at the time of cataloguing. Infant mortality in the 19th century was always high, with severe spikes due to cholera, etc., This meant that at the local congregational level, there was scarcely a month without parents in mourning. The present work was designed to offer both emotional and spiritual comfort, as well as theological support for parents, giving them confidence in the love of Christ extended to children. While devotional, there is an historical-theological strain as authors from all of Church history are lined up to testify unanimously to salvation of the young.

Smyth, Thomas. Solace for Bereaved Parents: Or Infants Die to Live. With and Historical Account of the Doctrine of Infant Salvation. Also, Very Full Selections from Various Authors, in Prose and Poetry. New York. Robert Carter. 1846. 314pp.

A good + copy, bound in cloth. Minor chip at the head of the spine and some rubbing as shown. Text is generally solid and bright pages with some moderate foxing. A few minor pencil notes in a period hand.
